Post-Critical Incident Assessment
Please note: All officers involved in a critical incident should be provided with debriefing within 24 hours of the incident. Most local, county, and state agencies have officers trained in critical incident debriefing.
Even after debriefing, a police officer who is involved in a critical incident such as a shooting, motor vehicle accident, or other traumatic exposure, is at greater risk of developing psychological symptoms that may lead to emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD. I provide post-critical incident assessment that involves assessing a variety of cognitive and emotional components and make recommendations that help the department make important decisions such as readiness to return to work and possible referral for additional support.
